Martin Jol makes shocking prediction for Luka Vuskovic at Tottenham, and it involves Romero

Former Tottenham manager Martin Jol has made a bullish prediction about Luka Vuskovic, which will excite Spurs fans.

Vuskovic has joined Hamburg on a season-long loan deal, and the 18-year-old will look to take the next step up in his career in Germany after winning many admirers during his spell at Westerlo in Belgium last season.

Vuskovic impressed many at Spurs during pre-season, with the teenager showing the kind of maturity that one would not expect of someone so young.

In fact, it has emerged that Tottenham gave the Croat the option of staying at the club, but he chose to go on loan to ensure he gets regular game time.

Martin Jol believes Luka Vuskovic will become better than Tottenham captain Cristian Romero

The new Tottenham captain is considered to be among the best centre-backs in the world by many in the game, which is why it was a huge boost for Spurs when they tied Romero to a long-term deal in the summer.

However, Martin Jol believes that Vuskovic has the talent to develop into an even more complete defender than the World Cup winner.

Jol told Football.London: “[Cristian] Romero could go anywhere, but you feel like if he plays for a while at his top level, he will get injured. Romero is a good, decent defender, but I will tell you one thing, the guy they sent to Hamburg now – Luka Vuskovic – will be better.”

A long way to go for Vuskovic

Vuskovic has confidently set his sights on becoming a first-team fixture at Tottenham in the future, and one certainly would not put that beyond him, given his dramatic rise over the last couple of years.

However, the teenager is still very raw and has a long way to go before he can challenge Romero and Van de Ven for a place in Thomas Frank’s starting eleven.

Centre-backs tend to mature later than forwards, and Spurs fans thus need to be very patient with the Croatian international and not burden him with unrealistic expectations.
