Mauricio Pochettino has directly responded to reports that he could be in line for a fairy tale return to Tottenham Hotspur in the summer.

According to reports, Igor Tudor has been informed by Spurs that he is unlikely to stay beyond the summer, with the Croat being bought in as a temporary firefighter.

In fact, some sources have reported that Spurs have already started working on bringing Pochettino back to the club, six and a half years on from the Argentine’s exit from the club.

Reports indicate that the former Spurs manager would jump at the chance to return to N17, and he has now directly addressed the speculation over his future.

Mauricio Pochettino plays down Tottenham return reports but keeps options open

The 53-year-old has suggested that the rumours linking him with a return to Spurs are down to his history at the North London club.

He insisted that he is solely focused on the upcoming World Cup campaign with the United States, but added that he is ‘open to everything’ in the summer.

When asked about suggestions that he could return to Spurs, Pochettino said (via The Daily Express): “I’m always linked [to clubs], to Tottenham, just like at one time I was linked to Espanyol, or to other clubs.

“In the end, especially because of my past at those clubs, when things aren’t going well, people tend to fall back on emotions and say: ‘Well, with Mauricio we played good football’, or whatever it may be.

“But no. We’re focused on the World Cup, on the United States. My contract runs until after the World Cup, so after that we’ll see what might happen. Open to everything, right?”

Pochettino may have already signalled his intention to return to Spurs

Since leaving the club in 2019, Pochettino has repeatedly made it clear that Tottenham hold a special place in his heart.

In his recent appearance on the High Performance Podcast, Pochettino said that winning the Europa League was not enough for Tottenham, adding that the club of that size should be competing for the Premier League and Champions League titles.

That suggests that the Argentine feels that he still has unfinished business at Spurs after coming so close to winning the biggest trophies.
