Mauricio Pochettino could quit USA to make immediate Tottenham return, says Kasey Keller

Former Tottenham Hotspur and USA goalkeeper Kasey Keller believes that Mauricio Pochettino could end up doing something controversial that no one expects him to.

According to a number of sources, Mauricio Pochettino remains Tottenham’s top target for the summer, with the Lilywhites wanting to bring the Argentine back to N17 when his contract with USA runs out at the end of the World Cup.

However, Spurs are facing a more pressing decision at the moment, with reports indicating that the Lilywhites are expected to replace Igor Tudor with immediate effect in an effort to avoid relegation.

Tottenham are reportedly considering appointing an active coach as an interim, and pairing him with a fan favourite in an effort to galvanise the club ahead of their final seven league games of the campaign.

Kasey Keller believes Mauricio Pochettino could return to Tottenham before the World Cup

However, Keller believes that his former club may look to lure Pochettino back to N17 immediately rather than wait until the summer.

The former USA goalkeeper believes that the Argentine could walk away from his contract even before the World Cup if the Lilywhites come calling for him.

Keller claimed (via Football.London): “I definitely see him quitting after the World Cup. With Tottenham Hotspur, the problem, I think, is if they could entice Pochettino to quit the World Cup right now, and I could see that happening.

“I think they may try to hold on, but I don’t think they can. I don’t think they can continue down the path right now without hiring somebody and have the unthinkable happen.

“Timing is so important, I think if Spurs could get a couple of wins in the next couple of matches, obviously the Forest match what a disaster. Then you think hold off, wait until after the World Cup and then have conversations. I think Spurs need to make a real serious move right now or the unthinkable is possible.”

Keller shoots warning to Spurs duo about their transfer ambitions

Amidst Tottenham’s struggles, reports suggest that Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero could both be eyeing moves to elite European clubs this summer.

However, Keller warned the centre-back duo that the standard of their recent performances may cause clubs to have second thoughts about signing them.

When asked if Romero and Van de Ven have hurt their chances of a big move with their displays this term, the former Spurs goalkeeper said:

“Absolutely. When you’re talking about these teams, you’re talking about teams you need to go into with a particular mentality. We have seen that over the last couple of years with Man Utd, it hasn’t been the mentality you expected at those clubs.

“Let’s say Michael Carrick right now is starting to change that mentality at United, do you bring in somebody with the mentality of ‘I’m not going to listen to this, I’m not going to do that, and I’m more important’ – that would be a fear.”
