The sacking of Thomas Frank has left Tottenham in familiar territory as the search for a new manager begins anew. Numerous fans have voiced their desire for Mauricio Pochettino to make a comeback, and the current United States head coach has spoken positively about such a move.
The possibility of Pochettino arriving as Frank's successor immediately is unrealistic. The 53-year-old is presently preparing the Stars and Stripes to co-host World Cup 2026 this summer, which represents the pivotal occasion he's been building towards since assuming control of the national team.
Nevertheless, a reunion during the summer could be feasible once his contract with the United States concludes. And it was only last year that Pochettino offered Spurs supporters encouragement with his remarks regarding a potential return.
"When I left the club, I always remember one interview I said I would like one day to come back to Tottenham," he told Sky Sports. "I am in the USA, so I am not going to talk about that now - but what I said then I still, after six years or five years, feel in my heart. Yes, I would like one day to come back."

At the time of his departure, the Argentinian maintained that he shared a "very, very good relationship" with then-chairman Daniel Levy. However, Levy has since left the club, with Peter Charrington now occupying a non-executive chairman role.
Spurs find themselves in a precarious situation both on and off the pitch. The club is currently languishing just five points clear of the Premier League's drop zone, necessitating a steady, dependable figure to salvage their season.
However, identifying long-term successors midway through the campaign can be fraught with difficulties. In this context, it may be prudent for Tottenham to appoint an interim coach before making a more permanent choice come the summer.
In this regard, the board might take note of Pochettino's recent comments about the club and its rightful standing. During an appearance on the High Performance Podcast, he suggested Spurs' recent successes still fall short of where the team should be.

"To win a Europa League, that the team won [under Ange Postecoglou], is good, but it's not enough," he said. "It is not enough to challenge for the Carabao Cup, or the FA Cup, or the Europa League, or the Conference [League].
"It's a club that should be, or needs to be because the fans, what they expect is, to be in the Champions League, fighting for the Champions League, trying to believe that you can win the Champions League and also fighting for the Premier League and believing that you can win the Premier League."
In the same conversation, Pochettino was questioned about which of his former clubs holds the most significance for him. The ex-Paris-Saint-Germain, Chelsea and Southampton manager gave an unambiguous answer that will surely lift the spirits of Spurs supporters.
"It is very simple: Tottenham," he responded. "Still, the people on the street, the fans of Tottenham, really show the love and the appreciation, and I think that is why it's so special."
