Micah Richards calls out 'petty' Jamie Carragher to his face over Mo Salah post

3 hours ago 25

Micah Richards branded Jamie Carragher "petty" and demanded he explain himself for his response to Mohamed Salah's controversial social media post.

Salah shared a picture of himself in the gym alone with his Liverpool teammates in Italy preparing to play Inter Milan at the San Siro. Teammates past and present, including Trent Alexander-Arnold, quickly reacted to his update.

Carragher also could not resist weighing in, hours after he let rip on the Egyptian to ramp up their public feud on Sky Sports Monday Night Football in the wake of Salah's explosive interview at the weekend.

Carragher commented on his own social media above Salah's post saying: "I’m not sure I’ve wanted Liverpool to win a game more than tonight for a long time!".

The issue was instantly raised as Carragher appeared alongside Thierry Henry and Micah Richards on CBS Sports Golazo, the US coverage of the Champions League. Host Kate Abdo instantly presented Salah's post and Carragher's response.

Richards asked: “Why are you being petty Jamie? What’s wrong? Why are you getting involved in this?”.

Carragher replied “I wasn’t replying to that by the way. I replied to somebody else’s post. The people I work for on British TV.”

Richards then said: “But can we clarify your comments? What did you mean by that?”.

Carragher explained: “I am really desperate for Liverpool to win today. For the manager.

“I’m the same as Mo Salah. I’ve got no relationship with the manager. I don’t know him that well.

“But I think what happened there and how he spoke about the manager, I’m desperate for him to win tonight, just for him.

“And also the supporters who’ve gone over there, who are not Mo Salah fans, they’re not Jamie Carragher fans - you support Liverpool. Whoever the manager is, whoever the supporter is, you just support the club.

“And I just want them all to win because, as I said, there’s been a lot of focus, understandaly so, on Mo Salah’s comments, but the manager’s got to answer questions, in the press conference, constantly.

“Alisson Becker, who showed great leadership, I think, last night as well in the press conference, who is getting asked about his mate, Mo Salah, and his comments, and he wants to defend him and also defend the club and the manager as well, so it was not an easy position for him.

“So I’m desperate for them to get the result tonight. And obviously I had my say on it last night, I don’t want to revist that, but I was a bit frustrated when I saw that post today.

“He doesn’t mention Liverpool tonight playing in the game. Liverpool are playing a big game today, at the San Siro, and they need to get a result because of the result they had last time, when Mo Salah was playing, against PSV.

“So if he’d put a comment like, ‘good luck to the lads tonight’, he may not have meant it, I don’t know, but Liverpool have got a huge game tonight and he puts out a social media post like that.”
