Mike Maignan to Chelsea transfer twist as 'perfect' summer scenario emerges

5 hours ago 30

Chelsea's 2024/25 season has technically not finished yet and it could end with a significant trophy as the Blues prepare for the Club World Cup final against PSG at the weekend.

While the Blues finish off their campaign, the new season is only a few weeks away and many at Stamford Bridge will have one eye on it. As such, the desire to strengthen their squad in the summer transfer window remains and there has been a focus on signing players despite being in the United States.

Jamie Gittens signed from Borussia Dortmund at the weekend and there are still other deals, both ins and outs, to be done. With this in mind, football.london has taken a look at a couple of transfer rumours currently swirling around the club.

Maignan twist revealed

Before the Club World Cup, Chelsea were interested in signing AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan. However, the finances surrounding the deal were not possible and the Blues had to walk away.

In a fresh twist, Galatasaray have reportedly attempted to sign Maignan. According to DAZN, the Istanbul club put forward an offer to the shot stopper but Maignan rejected their proposal.

What FL says: At this stage, it seems unlikely that Chelsea will sign Maignan this summer. This appeared to be one of those deals that Enzo Maresca wanted to complete out of convenience but it was not viable. The good news for Chelsea is that it seems Maignan is uninterested in signing for just any old club to leave the San Siro. With a year remaining on his contract, the Blues simply have to bide their time and they could end up signing the goalkeeper for free.

Bayern Munich enter the race for Nkunku

According to Bayern Insider, the Bundesliga giants have entered the race to sign Chelsea's Christopher Nkunku this summer. It is believed that Jamal Musiala's injury and Leroy Sane's departure have forced Vincent Kompany's hand and he has shortlisted the Frenchman as an option.

It was reported earlier this week that Manchester United were also keeping an eye on Nkunku to solve their forward problems.

Christopher Nkunku of Chelsea looks on

Chelsea star Christopher Nkunku has been linked with a summer move to Manchester United

What FL says: This is simply the perfect scenario for Chelsea this summer. It is clear that Nkunku has no future at the club and Maresca is keen to sell the forward. Having two clubs who are both in desperate need of attackers challenging for Nkunku is a dream. The Blues will hope that a bidding war will break out to ramp up the potential gains for the club this summer. If that happens, Chelsea could find themselves making even more money this summer.
