Mikel Arteta confirms Bukayo Saka blow in five-player Arsenal injury update for Man City

1 hour ago 40

Mikel Arteta has provided an update on Bukayo Saka ahead of Arsenal's clash against Manchester City. The 24-year-old winger hasn't featured for the Gunners since they lost to Pep Guardiola's side in the Carabao Cup final before the international break.

He was thought to have been rested when Arsenal lost to Southampton in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup. But, Saka was left out of the matchday squad in each of the three games that followed, missing the first and second leg ties against Sporting, as well as the defeat to Bournemouth.

Speaking to reporters at the Sobha Realty Training Centre on Friday afternoon, Arteta confirmed that the Hale End graduate will also be unavailable for selection for this weekend's title showdown. The Spaniard said: "Bukayo is out. That is for sure."

The Gunners could be without some big names when they lock horns with Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium, with Riccardo Calafiori, Martin Odegaard and Jurrien Timber all facing late fitness tests.

"Yeah we will try again, some players are quite close but the turnaround is short. We will try tomorrow," said Arteta, when quizzed on the trio who missed the goalless draw to Sporting on Wednesday night. During the second leg of the Champions League quarter-final, Noni Madueke appeared to suffer a knee injury.

The 24-year-old winger was forced to come off after clashing knees with Pedro Gonçalves. After receiving some on-field medical treatment, Madueke limped off the pitch, briefly took a seat on the bench before down the tunnel.
