Arsenal have granted the loan of under-21s defender Maldini Kacurri to Morecambe FC on loan for the rest of the year and will return in January. The now full Albanian senior international, after making his debut for the nation in September, leaves for the National League.
The move comes following some scrutiny of the lack of loan movement from Arsenal during the summer transfer window. Amongst the bluster of the eight record-breaking additions to the senior squad, outgoings were somewhat overshadowed.
There was a stark lack of movement, with only Ismael Kabia and Lucas Nygaard leaving on loan from the under-21s. Yet with the extended deadline for loans of this type, the Gunners have been able to find a place for the 19-year-old.
Kacurri spent time with League Two side Bromley last season; however, he failed to establish himself, making just three appearances.
He started his first game for Bromley in a 3-3 draw with Salford City before being dropped entirely and making just two more substitute appearances for the rest of the season. Clearly, he could not do much to impress manager Andy Woodman.
He hopes to play in the National League far more this season and has posted to his Instagram page, “Ready to work!” There is little known so far about his Arsenal future; however, a senior pathway looks unlikely.
Cristhian Mosquera, at 21, has come into the team and very competently replaced the injured William Saliba. While Piero Hincapie has also replaced the older Jakub Kiwior in the group.
Kacurri featured in first-team matchday squads last season and made his senior debut for Arsenal when he came on as s substitute in the 5-1 Carabao Cup win over Bolton last season.
Under Arteta, chances for young players have been boosted, especially with Ethan Nwaneri, Myles Lewis-Skelly, and, more recently, Max Dowman being promoted to the first team. Players like Kacurri, Kabia and Nygaard, however, could yet earn Arsenal future transfer fees with exposure to senior football away from North London.
