Mikel Arteta press conference LIVE: Arsenal boss on Newcastle, Gabriel and Merino late goals

Mikel Arteta faced the media after Arsenal’s clash with Newcastle United at St James’ Park in the Premier League.

VAR decided that a penalty awarded by Jarred Gillett initially deserved a second look and it was subsequently ruled out with Nick Pope deemed to have played the ball before bringing down Viktor Gyokeres in the box. The post then saved the home side as Leandro Trossard struck it from close proximity.

Nick Woltemade was the thorn in the side before the break, however, as one of very few chances created by the home side ended in a goal. The Gunners would respond late on with Mikel Merino scoring his own header.

Then the magic at the end as Gabriel scored from a corner to win it at the death.
