Mikel Arteta provides Bukayo Saka and Declan Rice injury update after latest Arsenal blow

3 hours ago 1

Mikel Arteta has provided an update on Bukayo Saka and Declan Rice ahead of Arsenal's clash against Sporting CP in the second leg of the UEFA Champions League quarter-final. The duo were absent from open training on Tuesday morning.

Speaking to reporters at the Sobha Realty Training Centre, the Gunners boss kept his cards close to his chest. He said: "We have to wait until tomorrow morning to see how a few of the boys are and I will make the right decision with them."

On Rice, Arteta said: "I don't want to do that. We have to wait and see how he is tomorrow but obviously he wasn't available to train."

When quizzed on Jurrien Timber and Saka: "Maybe one of them, let's see."

The 24-year-old winger withdrew from international duty last month and hasn't featured for the Gunners since they lost to Manchester City in the Carabao Cup final.

Saka was thought to have been rested when the north Londoners locked horns with Southampton in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup. But, the Hale End graduate was nowhere to be seen in either of the games that followed, missing the 1-0 win over Sporting and the 2-1 defeat to Bournemouth.
