Mikel Arteta has given his Arsenal players one simple task ahead of the Carabao Cup final against Man City
Mikel Arteta has given his Arsenal players a simple instruction to win the Carabao Cup final against Manchester City.
After close to six years since the last piece of major silverware, the Gunners could finally end a trophy drought that has crept up on them despite their competitive title-chasing streak.
In that time, however, Arteta believes his team have learned plenty, and the experience they have gained gives them a chance to justify their presence at this stage.
“It's one of the defining moments because at the end, it's whether you win the trophy or not,” Arteta stated. “And that's the most important thing once you get to the final.

“But in order to be there, you have to do a lot of things and learn a lot of things that the team has done so far. So, we need to prove that point. That's clear. And that has to be done on the pitch.”
Only Bukayo Saka was in the squad that won the FA Cup, an unused substitute then, but a guaranteed starter this weekend. Arteta says his players must “attack the trophy” if they are to come out and win their first major piece of silverware in the red and white.
“Our players have to perform daily at this level, but when it comes to the crucial moments and when it comes to the moment to attack the trophy and take it and bring it home,” he said.
“That's when you need to be placed to step up and make a difference. That's clear."
One of the big decisions Arteta must make is in goal, but unlike Pep Guardiola, who confirmed James Trafford would start the game, the Arsenal manager made no such commitment. Kepa Arrizabalaga has played every single minute of the competition, but David Raya is the unequivocal number one.
When asked what needs to be weighed up to make the decision between the pair, he simply replied, “Nothing. That is decided.”
