Mikey Moore opens up on Rangers experience and potential Tottenham return in January

1 hour ago 1

Tottenham’s Mikey Moore has made an honest admission about his early struggles at Rangers and has revealed whether he considered cutting short his loan at the club in January.

Many Spurs fans expected Moore to dominate for the Scottish Premiership side after his breakthrough year in North London last term, and perhaps the 18-year-old himself would have expected the same.

However, instead, the attacking midfielder struggled to make an impact in his first couple of months at the club and failed to establish himself as a regular starter.

There were reports that Moore was unhappy with his role in Russel Martin’s system, and that Tottenham could recall the youngster in January.

Mikey Moore discusses Tottenham return rumours

It was even claimed by some outlets that several Championship clubs were looking to sign Moore on loan in January, but everything has changed since a new manager came through the door at Ibrox.

The Spurs youngster is getting plenty of praise from the Rangers faithful, in light of his recent performances, and he has now insisted that he never seriously considered quitting the club mid-season.

Speaking about his early struggles, Moore said (via The Rangers Review): “It was a difficult start for me, and I don’t think I showed anywhere near what I know I can do.

“Mentally, it’s been unbelievable for me because it’s a massive club and I think it’s strengthened me a lot because it’s probably the toughest time I’ve been through. So now I’m happy to be coming out of it, but now I need to keep on going and performing.”

When asked about the speculation suggesting he could return to North London, the teenager said: “I was never ready to go back. I always knew that at some point it would change, and I’ve changed it for myself a little bit in the last few weeks, but I need to keep building and playing even better than I am.

“I’m picking up goals and assists, as I said in midweek (after 2-0 Europa League defeat to Roma), that I need to, so I’m happy with the goal on Sunday.”

Moore admits he is brimming with confidence right now

The arrival of Danny Rohl as manager has been the catalyst for the youngster’s turnaround, with Moore now finally showcasing his quality in the final third.

The youngster admitted that he now feels a lot more at home at the Glasgow side and confessed that Rohl has given him the confidence to express himself.

Moore added (via STV News): “I’m feeling a lot more confident, I’m getting used to the league, used to my teammates, and the manager’s helped me a lot as well, he’s come in and he’s gave me confidence and belief in myself which has been good from him, so I’m excited to keep going.

“There’s a lot of pressure on a young boy coming from the Premier League, but as long as I’m improving and I’m helping Rangers go win games and picking up goals and helping the team, that’s all that matters for now.”
