The experienced Liverpool duo were absent for the trip to Brighton on Saturday, with neither able to meet up with their respective international squads during the break

Liverpool duo Alisson and Mohamed Salah have posted updates showing their respective injury recoveries after the pair missed the Reds’ Premier League loss at Brighton on Saturday.

Salah was ruled out after he sustained a muscular issue in the midweek win over Galatasaray, an update Arne Slot confirmed before the game. But Alisson’s omission came as more of a shock, with the Brazilian not mentioned as a possible absentee in the pre-match press conference.

Alisson did not travel with the squad to the south coast for the 2-1 loss at the Amex due to a knock, which also forced him to drop out of the Brazil squad for the upcoming matches during the March international break.

Salah will also not meet up with the Egypt squad, but fears he has suffered a serious injury have been slightly eased following the winger’s social media post on Sunday, which showed him working in the gym.

Meanwhile, Alisson shared an update on Instagram, posting an image of himself wearing leg compression pants, which help with recuperation from an injury.

The goalkeeper has struggled with hamstring problem this season, although the nature of his current injury has not been confirmed.

Speaking after the Brighton game, Slot said: “Alisson will definitely be out during the international break and let's see afterwards.”

As for Salah, Slot said on Friday: “We are hoping also with what Mo has shown in the past that he can recover faster than other players might in similar situations because he takes such good care of his body.

“History has shown that he can be earlier back than some others. But it's only two weeks when we go again so let's hope in that period of time he can be back.”

Ekitike was replaced through injury at the Amex

Meanwhile, Hugo Ekitike reported for France duty on Monday, two days after he picked up a dead leg against Brighton.

The striker collided with James Milner just minutes into the game and could not continue.

Slot explained after the match that Ekitike had not sustained a serious issue, and claimed Liverpool’s no.22 “could play tomorrow if he needed to”.

That Ekitike met up with the France squad ahead of friendlies against Brazil and Colombia indicates that he will not suffer any long-term adverse effects from the issue.

Elsewhere, Liverpool remains without the injured Conor Bradley, Giovanni Leoni, Wataru Endo and Alexander Isak, although Slot revealed last week that the latter is closing in on a return to the side.
