Mohamed Salah breaks FPL record as price announced ahead of new Premier League season

Liverpool star Mohamed Salah will be the most expensive player in Fantasy Premier League (FPL) next season after his price was confirmed as being £0.5 million more than Erling Haaland.

Salah (£14.5 million) and Haaland (£14.0 million) will be the two most expensive players in the 2025/26 edition of FPL. And the price for the Liverpool number 11 is the highest-ever opening cost for a midfielder in the game overtaking the £14.0 million for Cristiano Ronaldo in 2008/09 — after he smashed the record for the most points in a season last term.

The Egyptian finished on 344 points, more than 100 ahead of his nearest challenger, Bryan Mbeumo. And Salah delivered a massive 18 double-figure returns in his first season under Arne Slot.

That was double the next-best player in the game, underlining his outstanding consistency. Haaland was valued at £15.0 million last summer but dropped after a relatively modest return of 22 league goals by his lofty standards.

Salah and Haaland’s price reveals come after new Liverpool signing Florian Wirtz was confirmed at £8.5 million. Wirtz scored 10 goals and provided 12 assists in the Bundesliga last season, adding a further six goals and an assist in the Champions League.

Alexander Isak, it was revealed over the weekend, will cost £10.5 million. The Newcastle United forward, of course, has been linked with a move to Anfield, though that deal appears to be a very tough one to pull off.

"It is incredible to win this with our fans," Salah said on Sky Sports after the Premier League title was confirmed in April.

"This is 100 per cent better than last time, especially with the fans. We have a different group now so to show we can do it again is something special.

"You can see the number. Now I don't have to defend much. The tactics are quite different. I said, 'As long as you rest me defensively I will provide offensively.'

"So I am glad that I did. He listened a lot and you can see the numbers. When you play in the Premier League you have to defend but I said that I can gamble and somehow I can make a difference.

"My number of assists shows that, you can create chances as well."

Liverpool will begin the new Premier League season with a home game against Bournemouth at Anfield in mid-August. It then travels to Newcastle before hosting Arsenal in a tough opening trio of fixtures.

Liverpool.com says: Even at a high price point, Salah is likely to be good value in FPL. He scores and assists so regularly that he can be trusted to deliver.

With Wirtz teeing him up and more quality ahead of him in attack, his numbers might even improve. That is certainly what he will be aiming for, and is shouldn't be ruled out.
