Mohamed Salah names Premier League title 'favorite' ahead of Liverpool after Gary Neville claim

2 days ago 33

Mohamed Salah reckons that Arsenal might be best placed to claim the Premier League crown this term following three campaigns of falling agonizingly short in the title battle against Liverpool and Manchester City. It comes after Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher made their season predictions.

Salah and the Reds secured the championship last season with Arsenal finishing second for a third successive campaign. The north London outfit last clinched the league over two decades ago during the 2003-04 season and are eager to bring their lengthy wait for another domestic trophy to an end.

Liverpool entered the new campaign as bookmakers' favourites to defend their crown after substantially strengthening Arne Slot's squad this summer.

Whilst Salah and his teammates made an impressive start to their title defence by defeating Bournemouth 4-2 on Friday evening, the Egyptian attacker acknowledges that Arsenal's squad - the bulk of which has remained together for several years - positions them as frontrunners in his view.

Speaking about Arsenal's championship prospects at Tuesday evening's PFA Awards, Salah commented: "I think you have a great team this season as you did last season. So, you have really good chance.

"I think you are the favourite now because you players who have been together for five years. I can't say I'll wish you luck – hopefully we do it again."

It comes after Declan Rice made a title admission on stage in front of the Liverpool star. He said: ""It's been really tough, coming second three years in a row.

"But I've said it before, in life you've got to go through some small losses in order to win and we're going to keep going, we're going to keep pushing, and hopefully something can come for us."

Salah's assessment of the Arsenal squad mirrors that of Gary Neville, with the Sky Sports pundit stating earlier this week that the title race between the Gunners, Liverpool and Manchester City remains too tight to predict a winner.

However, Neville suggested Arsenal's sustained excellence and reliability over recent seasons could prove decisive.

During Monday Night Football, Neville explained: "I couldn't separate Arsenal, Liverpool and City and I think they are all in with an equal chance so I've got no certainty that Arsenal is going to win it.

"But they've been consistent over the last three years and I do feel they will get there at some point. They are reliable and solid and they're consistent, which I think is important.

"I think they've got the right materials, they are just going to have to sort that forward bit of the pitch out and I think Gyokeres will."
