Joe Gomez has sent an emotional message to Mohamed Salah following the news that he is set to depart Liverpool at the end of the season.
The Egyptian confirmed on Tuesday that he will call time on his nine-year association with the Reds this summer, ending a glittering stay at Anfield that included two Premier League title triumphs, a Champions League success in 2019, and a string of individual awards.
The bombshell update dominated international news headlines on Tuesday, such is the stature of Salah’s profile in soccer and popular culture. Social media was also awash with tributes to Salah’s immense career at Liverpool, including from his current teammates.

He demanded via an Instagram post that Salah’s legacy should be celebrated during his final months as a Red.
“One of the greatest to ever wear the shirt. It’s been a pleasure having the countless hours watching your greatness first hand in so many ways,” he wrote.
“Everyone knows about your mentality and work ethic — the numbers just cement your legacy forever. Thank you for everything you’ve done for us. I’ll always be grateful for our friendship over all these years. Can’t wait to see you celebrated until the very end.”

Another current Red, Andy Robertson, also sent a poignant message following the news of Salah's imminent exit.
“Mohamed, Thank you,” he wrote on social media. “9 of the best years of our lives with amazing memories on and off the pitch.
“Watching you become the best at what you do and become one of the best to ever have worn the Liverpool shirt has been a joy to watch and be part of.
“Your mentality is second to none and a lot of people could take note. You have pushed yourself every single day and always demanded more from yourself and others.
“A pleasure sharing the pitch with you for so long but even more so being able to call you a friend. You deserve a send off that reflects your status at LFC- the greatest. Second to none.”
Salah’s final Liverpool game is currently set to be the season’s concluding match on May 24 at Anfield, when the Reds host Brentford.
Fittingly, Jordan Henderson, Liverpool’s club captain for the majority of Salah’s time at Liverpool, will therefore be in attendance.
The winger is currently nursing a muscular injury that forced him to miss last weekend’s defeat to Brighton. It is not clear if he will be fit in time to face Manchester City next week.
