Liverpool suffered a fourth consecutive Premier League defeat on Saturday, falling 3-2 to Brentford in London.
The hosts took an early lead with goals from Dango Ouattara and Kevin Schade, before Milos Kerkez netted his first for Liverpool just before half-time. Mohamed Salah added a late goal following Igor Thiago's second-half penalty, but it wasn't enough to prevent another loss for the Reds, marking their third defeat in London this season.
Of course, you're already aware of all that. However, there were several intriguing subplots in London that you might have overlooked. Here are some moments you may have missed...
Brentford announcer struggles
Just before kick-off at the Gtech Community Stadium, the two teams were announced over the PA system, as is tradition. While Liverpool's players may consider themselves well-known figures in the world of Premier League soccer, that didn't stop the stadium announcer from stumbling over several of their names.
Among those whose names were mispronounced were Dominik Szoboszlai, Rio Ngumoha, and Hugo Ekitike. The announcer also struggled with Giorgi Mamardashvili and Federico Chiesa. If only the Reds' players had caused as much trouble for the opposition.
In all fairness, perseverance pays off, and by the time the names were announced closer to kick-off, there was a significant improvement in the second attempt. If only Liverpool could say the same.
Kelleher receives his farewell
Caoimhin Kelleher, who served as Alisson's deputy with distinction for several years, including two Carabao Cup victories, was always going to receive a warm welcome from the away fans. The Republic of Ireland international received just that when he made his way toward the travelling Kop in the second half.
The supporters packed into the far side of the Gtech ensured they gave Kelleher the send-off he deserved after his summer departure from Anfield. It was a heartwarming moment on a night when there was little else to cheer for those who had travelled to west London.
Chiesa brightens fan's day
There wasn't much to smile about for the Liverpool faithful on a dismal night in London, but for one fortunate young supporter, there was at least a picture-perfect moment that he is unlikely to forget. As the disheartened players made their way through the tunnel and onto the team coach around 11:30 pm (local time), one supporter, who was there with his father, managed to get several pictures with his heroes as they made their exit.
Salah, Virgil van Dijk, and Mamardashvili were all more than willing to pause for a quick photo. However, it was Chiesa's picture that will hold a special place for the young fan in question, who enthusiastically told the Italian he was his favorite player after capturing the moment.
Chiesa responded with his signature grin and offered the supporter a high five before heading off to the coach. A cherished memory on an otherwise challenging night.
Salah realizes game is over
It was in the 97th minute when Salah seemed to finally concede that the game was lost at the Gtech on Saturday evening. After breaking his worst goalless streak as a Liverpool player with a stunning finish past Kelleher, the Reds were poised for another dramatic conclusion.
Once again, Liverpool found itself pursuing a late goal. As the opposition defended and Salah was primed for a potential last-minute break from the halfway line, conceding a corner was enough for the Egyptian to realize it wasn't going to be their night.
When Brentford secured the late set piece, Salah was seen turning away from the action in frustration, burying his head in his hands and then covering his face, clearly irritated by another disappointing day at work for Liverpool.
