Mohamed Salah's Liverpool wage and contract details after sensational interview

1 day ago 8

The staggering contract of Liverpool's Mohamed Salah could play a pivotal role in any potential transfer, as the Egyptian star's future at Anfield is once again under scrutiny.

Liverpool's key forward has astonishingly hinted at a possible mid-season departure from Anfield in a bombshell interview following Saturday's thrilling draw with Leeds. His remarks come just eight months after he opted to renew his contract with the club, which means he would have been up for grabs on a free transfer earlier this year had he not agreed to the new deal.

It was anticipated that Salah, who was in the form of his life last season, would remain at Liverpool until at least 2027, with his new contract extending his previous terms by two years. The figures behind the Egyptian's renewed contract are also staggering.

While no financial specifics about Salah's new contract have been disclosed, The Guardian suggested that Salah did not agree to a pay cut to stay in Merseyside.

His former contract reportedly saw him pocket a base wage of around £350,000 ($467,000) per week, which could potentially increase to around £500,000 ($667,000) per week due to performance-related bonuses.

If he decides to part ways with Anfield, only a handful of clubs would be able to match those figures.

There has been a long-standing interest in Salah from Saudi Arabia, and it has already been mooted that executives in the Middle East would be prepared to bankroll a lucrative move.

Discussing a potential move to Saudi Arabia following previous discussions with Al-Ittihad, he stated: "Is there interest from Saudi Arabia? I don’t want to answer that question because the club will take me in a different direction.

"I have done so much for this club. I love the fans so much and love the club, I don't know what is next."

In his candid interview on Saturday, Salah said: "I am very disappointed, I have done so much for this club over years, especially last season, it seems like the club has thrown me under the bus. That’s how I feel it. Someone wants me to get all the blame. The club promised me a lot in summer. Now I’m on bench, so I can say they haven’t kept those promises.

"I used to have a good relationship (with Slot). Now we don’t have any relationship, and I don't know why. (It) seems like someone does not want me in the club. I called my mum and dad and told them to come to the Brighton game.

"It doesn't matter if I play or not. I'm going to enjoy it. I am just going to be at Anfield and say goodbye to the fans before the African Cup of Nations, because I don’t know what is going to happen when I am there.

"It’s not acceptable to me to be fair. If I was somewhere else, every club would protect its players. Now it's, ‘Throw Mo under the bus because he is a problem in a team.'

"I don’t think I am a problem. I am not fighting for my position every day because I have earned it. I am not bigger than the club. I am not bigger than anything. But I have earned it."
