The calls for Mohamed Salah to issue an apology following his outburst against Liverpool are growing - and it wouldn’t be the first time he has found himself saying sorry if he did.
The fallout continues following Salah’s extraordinary interview last weekend, in which he accused Liverpool of “throwing him under the bus” and suggested that someone at the club was trying to drive him out, while claiming his relationship with head coach Arne Slot had broken down.
His future is now in serious doubt, with the 33-year-old having hinted that he could play his final game for the Reds against Brighton this weekend - although there are major questions over whether he should return to the squad after being left out against Inter Milan in midweek.
Salah has been urged by a number of pundits, including former Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard, to apologize for his actions, although Slot sidestepped the debate when it was put to him earlier this week.
There is no sign of that happening at this moment in time, although Salah is well-versed in apologies, having issued one to Liverpool fans a couple of years ago.
After the Reds failed to secure a top-four finish and qualify for the Champions League in Jurgen Klopp’s penultimate season as manager in 2023, Salah took to social media to say sorry to the club’s supporters.

“I’m totally devastated. There’s absolutely no excuse for this,” Salah posted on X at the time.
“We had everything we needed to make it to next year’s Champions League and we failed. We are Liverpool and qualifying to the competition is the bare minimum.
“I am sorry but it’s too soon for an uplifting or optimistic post. We let you and ourselves down.”
Whether he will take a similar approach this time around remains to be seen, with more questions likely to be asked about his future over the next couple of days.
Slot will speak to the media at his pre-match press conference on Friday ahead fo Saturday’s game against Brighton, and Salah will no doubt be the main topic discussed again.
The Liverpool boss will have to make a decision on whether he brings the winger back into the fold at the weekend. If he does, reports have suggested that the club has no plans to turn the game into a farewell for Salah.
The Egypt international will be departing for a short time at least though as he heads off to the Africa Cup of Nations after Saturday’s game. With the tournament running until January 18, Salah could end up missing eight Liverpool games, and with the transfer window set to reopen, fans will be keeping a close eye on his activities over the next few weeks.
