Darwin Nunez could be set for a new club in the final few days of the transfer window in Turkey, as Fenerbahce pursues a deal to sign the former Liverpool striker on loan.

Nunez only joined Al-Hilal in August, but he is the subject of rumors linking him with a swift return to Europe. The 26-year-old has appeared 22 times for his club in Saudi Arabia, tallying an unremarkable seven goals and five assists in all competitions.

His prospective move to Turkey would see him play for a third club in the space of a few months, and his spell at Liverpool may soon feel like a distant memory.

When he left Liverpool last August, Nunez's popularity with his Reds teammates was evident as Mohamed Salah penned a farewell message on social media.

"I consider myself lucky to have had you as a teammate and friend," Salah wrote. "You were always very real and brought so much good energy wherever you went. You made us laugh and showed heart in everything you did. You will be missed and I wish you the best in your new club."

Amid his potential move away from Saudi Arabia, former Liverpool midfielder Didi Hamann said that he believes Nunez would have been a better signing for Arsenal than Viktor Gyokeres last summer.

The Gunners signed Gyokeres from Sporting Lisbon in the hope that the Swede would prove to be the final piece in the jigsaw in their hunt to win the Premier League after three successive second-place finishes.

Gyokeres has not carried his Sporting form into the English top flight, netting six times in 22 appearances, with only one of those goals coming against a team that is currently above 16th place in the standings.

"I thought last season everybody was having a go at Darwin Nunez, but I thought Nunez would have been tailor-made for Arsenal, a team that creates many chances," Hamann told CasinoBeats.

"For all his faults, and for all his easy chances he missed, Nunez always occupied two or three defenders with his physicality and his pace.

"If he could finish, he’d probably be the best player in the world. But I think for Arsenal, he would have been a much better fit than Gyokeres."
