Mohamed Salah reportedly wants to stay at Liverpool as the winger is set for a big decision over his future upon his return to Merseyside.
Salah will be heading back to Anfield soon following Egypt’s defeat to Senegal in the Africa Cup of Nations semifinal on Wednesday. Sadio Mane scored the winner to once again get the better of his former Liverpool teammate and set up a final meeting with Morocco.
It means the wait goes on for Salah to claim a continental title with his country, with his next opportunity coming in 2027. Although Egypt’s hopes have been extinguished, the Reds will have to wait for the winger’s return, with a third-place playoff against Nigeria taking place on Saturday.

Despite signing a new two-year deal just last year, the 33-year-old put his time with the Reds into serious doubt with an extraordinary outburst against the club last month.
Salah accused Liverpool of throwing him “under the bus” and suggested that someone inside Anfield was trying to drive him out of the club, while also claiming that his relationship with Arne Slot had broken down.

The Reds’ boss did seem to repair some bridges before Salah’s departure for AFCON, with the forward having made a return to the squad against Brighton after being dropped for the Champions League game against Inter Milan.
Salah though had suggested the game against the Seagulls would be his last appearance for Liverpool, hinting that he could leave the club during the January transfer window.
There is of course a long-standing interest from Saudi Arabia, with speculation linking him with a move to the Middle East having grown following his tirade, but it now looks as though Salah will be staying put at Liverpool for the time being.
Speaking on The Athletic FC podcast, David Ornstein revealed that Salah is expected to remain with the Reds for the remainder of the current season.

There is, however, still a question about his future beyond that. Salah is said to want to stay at Liverpool, but Ornstein suggests that should he continue to feel disgruntled about his position in the side, there could be a conversation in the summer about an exit.
We may well find out more about Salah’s future once he returns from Morocco following this weekend. Depending on his involvement in Saturday’s third-place game, he could make his domestic return in the Reds’ Champions League clash with Marseille on Wednesday.
His agent, Ramy Abbas, has reportedly been in talks with Liverpool sporting director Richard Hughes during his involvement at AFCON, with reports during the tournament claiming that Salah will indeed stay at Anfield beyond the January window.
