Reports in Italy are suggesting that Federico Chiesa’s future at Liverpool could hang on Mohamed Salah, with the pair both being linked with exits.

Chiesa has struggled to force himself into Arne Slot’s plans ever since he arrived at Anfield in the summer of 2024. Since making the move from Juventus, he has made 34 appearances for the Reds’ senior side, including just seven starts.

Despite having a full pre-season behind him this time around, the 28-year-old continues to find himself on the periphery of the squad. He was handed a rare start in the Premier League against Wolves recently, although he failed to impress.

Chiesa has therefore been linked with a move back to Italy, with a return to Juventus having been touted in recent days.

Reports have been suggesting that the Turin club is considering a loan deal for the winger, although Liverpool is understood to have not been contacted yet.

The speculation continues back in Italy though, with La Gazzetta dello Sport providing something of an update and suggesting that Salah could play a big role in any potential move for Chiesa.

The report claims that Liverpool is still waiting on a final decision on Salah’s own future.

The Egyptian of course had a major falling out with the club last month, having accused someone at Anfield of trying to drive him out, while also suggesting he may have played his final game for the Reds.

Salah is of course currently away with his national side at the Africa Cup of Nations, although his agent is said to be speaking to Liverpool’s sporting director Richard Hughes as they look to find a way forward.

Should Salah leave Liverpool during the January transfer window, then it’s suggested that an exit for Chiesa would be even more unlikely.

It’s not just Juventus that is being linked with a move for Chiesa though, with Sky Sports also claiming that Napoli has made an approach for a possible loan, although it’s also said that Liverpool would only be open to a permanent deal.

Liverpool.com says: As much as Chiesa doesn’t seem to be in favor with Slot, it would make very little sense for Liverpool to let him leave this month.

Salah is going to be away for at least another week, and if Egypt wins its quarter-final, then he won’t be back until the end of January. With Alexander Isak out injured and now doubts over Hugo Ekitike’s fitness, letting another forward go would be a bizarre decision.
