Mohamed Salah told to issue public apology to Arne Slot after Liverpool outburst

Mohamed Salah has been urged to publicly apologize to Arne Slot for the comments he made following Liverpool's draw with Leeds over the weekend.

Salah said in the Elland Road mixed zone that he felt as though Liverpool had thrown him under the bus this season, while he also claimed he no longer had any relationship with Liverpool head coach Slot.

The Egyptian's comments led to him being left out of Liverpool's traveling squad for the Champions League game away to Inter Milan on Tuesday, and it seems unlikely that he will feature against Brighton this weekend ahead of his departure for the Africa Cup of Nations next week.

Former Premier League striker Jay Bothroyd called on Salah to say sorry to Slot, his teammates, and the Liverpool supporters before traveling to Morocco to link up with his Egypt teammates.

"I think Liverpool have handled it (the Salah situation) in the right way," Bothroyd said on Sky Sports. "They didn't really have a choice to be honest.

"Salah has come out publicly, he's spoken about the club in a disrespectful way. His teammates have the right to feel disrespected as well.

"As a consequence of this, he's been left at home, and he can't have any complaints, to be honest.

"He will look at this and think... if he's smart, he should come out and apologize publicly to the manager, apologize to his teammates and the Liverpool fans, because no player is bigger than the club."

Slot was involved in an interesting discussion with Clarence Seedorf on Amazon Prime after the game, in which Seedorf suggested that the Liverpool head coach should be the one who makes the first move in trying to rectify the situation with Salah.

After Seedorf said that "everybody makes mistakes," Slot responded: "You say everyone makes mistakes in life, so the first thing should be, does the player think he's made a mistake as well?

"I haven't said I'm not going to talk to him. And the next question is, should the initiative come from me or from him? Now that's another question to answer."

Slot was asked about the exchange with Seedorf in a post-game press conference and responded: "Clarence said 'in his opinion,' and I said, 'Yes, that's your own opinion.'

"So, I didn't say anything about that, who should make the first step or whatever. It was his opinion.

"So, I am happy that I can clarify that, headlines tomorrow or not. What I've said, it was his opinion."
