Reports have emerged claiming that Galatasaray are planning a move for Mohamed Salah in the January 2026 transfer window.
The Turkish club is reportedly preparing a high-profile offer for Salah, aiming to lure the Liverpool star with a lucrative contract supported by sponsors. The proposal is reportedly worth $20-22 million per season and includes sponsorship incentives, a guaranteed starting position, and the chance to play in front of a passionate Istanbul fanbase, signalling an ambitious project to entice the forward.
Salah, under contract with Liverpool until 2027, has seen his influence wane this season, scoring just five goals and registering three assists in 19 appearances.
Coupled with recent benchings and Liverpool’s ongoing defensive struggles, questions over his role have grown, providing Galatasaray with an opportunity to make a bold move during the January transfer window.
However, there are several compelling reasons to view these claims by Fichaes with skepticism.
Salah’s participation in the 2026 Africa Cup of Nations further complicates any potential January transfer.
With Salah set to be relieved from his club duties on December 13 after the Reds face Brighton, and being potentially unavailable until January 18 should Egypt reach the final, it would make a winter move logistically challenging.
Salah has also previously hinted that a move to the Saudi Pro League could be on his radar when the timing is right.
“My relations with SPL officials are very good, we talked a lot, and the negotiations were serious,” he told Egyptian broadcaster ON Sport after receiving last season’s Football Writers’ Player Of The Year Award.
“It was a good opportunity to me, if I hadn’t renewed with Liverpool, it would have happened.”
Saudi clubs, four of which are majority-owned by the country’s Public Investment Fund, have slowed their spending after a surge of high-profile signings in 2022. However, sources indicate that funding remains available for marquee players like Salah, who fit the profile of the Saudi Pro League.
With the initial wave of superstar signings nearing the end of their contracts, there could be a fresh push to bring in new stars as the country builds toward hosting the 2034 World Cup.
Salah himself admitted last season that he felt “more out than in” at Liverpool while his future was uncertain, though his new contract at Anfield now secures him through the 2026–27 campaign.
The forward’s 190 goals make him Liverpool’s top scorer in the Premier League era, with only Alan Shearer, Harry Kane, and Wayne Rooney ahead of him on the all-time list.
This season, Salah has managed five goals in all competitions, and manager Arne Slot revealed that the player was “not happy” about being dropped from the lineup.
