Mohamed Salah urged to start 'new life' away from Liverpool and seal unlikely January exit

Mohamed Salah’s future at Liverpool remains in the spotlight with suggestions the forward should consider starting a “new life” away from Anfield, with talk of a highly unlikely January departure beginning to surface.

Salah’s future appears increasingly uncertain after he publicly criticized Liverpool and Arne Slot following a third successive benching at Leeds last weekend.

The 33-year-old accused the club of throwing him “under the bus” and hinted that there were attempts to force him out.

Those comments led to his omission from the squad for the midweek trip to Inter Milan, though he is set to return for Saturday’s Premier League clash with Brighton after holding showdown talks, before travelling to Cairo to join Egypt ahead of AFCON.

BBC Radio 5 Live commentator Chris Waddle believes that plenty of clubs will be interested in the forward if he remains unhappy on Merseyside. “ Salah will argue that he wants to play every game,” he said.

“Especially given he signed that new contract, there would’ve been expectations that came with that. The game changes, though, so he has to adapt to that.

“If he’s not happy, he should put in a transfer request for January. There’ll be plenty of clubs interested, he’ll have offers. He could do what Heung-min Son did and go to the MLS and have a nice break after AFCON, to start training in March and start a new career in America where he’d be a big fish.”

Liverpool is not actively pursuing a January sale, despite Saudi clubs placing a hefty £100 million ($134m) valuation on the 33-year-old. A comparable fee was speculated for Manchester United’s Bruno Fernandes in the summer, yet he ultimately remained at Old Trafford.

Clubs in the Saudi Pro League are said to be confident of landing Salah if he indicates a willingness to leave Liverpool, with the expectation that any deal would involve a significant transfer fee for the Egyptian star.

According to the Daily Mail, Salah has 18 months remaining on a contract worth more than £400,000 per week and is not believed to be completely opposed to a move. In recent years, he has reportedly never ruled out the possibility of playing in Saudi Arabia.

Should Liverpool show any openness to negotiations, Al Hilal, Al Qadisah and Neom are all understood to be monitoring the situation, although no such signal has yet emerged.

For now, Saudi clubs are reluctant to make a formal approach until they are confident relations have fully stabilised. While one source described the situation as “difficult”, there remains belief that a deal could be achievable if Salah signals a clear desire to move.
