Mohammed Kudus has revealed his footballing philosophy, his desire to entertain at Tottenham, and the idol who shaped his style as a footballer.
Tottenham Hotspur’s pre-season preparations this summer have already given fans the chance to familiarise themselves with a handful of the club’s new arrivals.
One player who has certainly caught the eye of the Lilywhite faithful is Mohammed Kudus, signed from West Ham United for £55 million, making him the fourth most expensive signing in the club’s history.
The Ghanaian international has wasted no time in making his mark in north London, with a particularly eye-catching display against Reading, where he was involved in two of Tottenham’s goals and showed flashes of his unique flair.
Mohammed Kudus explains his style to Tottenham fans
Mohammed Kudus has always been a player known for his flair, trickery and confidence in possession, and he has wasted no time in showing exactly why Spurs were willing to splash the cash on him this summer.
Speaking to football.london, Kudus opened up on the way he approaches the game and what drives him every time he steps on the pitch. He explained that entertaining the fans is a fundamental part of how he sees football.
“I have always seen the game as trying to be different. We have a lot of passes and less guys who want to take people on and dribble and that is how I have always grown to play,” Kudus said. “Try to entertain the fans as much as I can. So it has always been a part of my game.”
His commitment to expressive football becomes even clearer when you learn who his childhood hero was growing up in Ghana. Kudus recalled: “A lot of players but from Africa, it was Jay-Jay Okocha. I really liked how he was playing.”
Kudus ready for Champions League return with Spurs
Kudus is now set to feature in the UEFA Champions League again this season with Tottenham, marking his return to Europe’s biggest stage for the first time since his Ajax spell in the 2022/23 campaign.
Back then, he managed four goals and two assists in just six group-stage appearances, a record that underlined his pedigree at that level and showcased his ability to step up against Europe’s elite.
Speaking about what it means to be back in the competition, Kudus said: “It is very exciting. Those are the levels we live to play for and I think the club deserves to be in that spot. We need to make the most out of it.”
