Moises Caicedo has shown his true colours during the international break, leading by example for club and country – on and off the pitch
Moises Caicedo has doubled down and insisted that he wants to stay at Chelsea 'as long as possible'. The 24-year-old midfielder committed his long-term future to the Blues during the international break, claiming he wants to become a 'legend' at Stamford Bridge.
In an interview with Spanish newspaper AS, Caicedo, who Chelsea signed from Brighton for £115m in August 2023, began by reflecting on his meteoric rise to superstardom. He said: "I’m very proud of myself for everything I’ve achieved.
"I still have a lot to do. Being at Chelsea now and at the World Cup with Ecuador is something special, both for my family and for me. The path forward involves continuing to work because I want to be even better."
On whether he can see himself at Real Madrid, Caicedo, who has five years or so remaining on his deal in west London, said: "You never know in football, don’t you think? I have a contract with Chelsea now.

"The truth is, I haven’t thought about any other club or leaving London, but you never know. All I want is to enjoy myself. I have a contract, and I want to keep playing as long as God allows.
"After that, we’ll see what happens and what surprises the future holds," added the Ecuador international, "Chelsea are a great club. They’ve helped me a lot since I arrived. I want to repay them and stay there as long as I can."

Liam Rosenior replaced Enzo Maresca in the dugout at the start of the year. Chelsea enjoyed a fruitful honeymoon period before crashing out of the UEFA Champions League and falling behind in the race for a place in the top four of the Premier League.
The Blues have only won two of their last seven games in the English top-flight, and they have lost each of their last four matches across all competitions. Caicedo said: "It’s a bit difficult because we were used to Maresca’s style.
“"The adaptation has taken us a little while, but in the end, it’s just a matter of time to get used to something new. Sometimes you adapt faster, and other times it takes a little longer.
"I think the whole team is going through a tough time. We have to keep going and try to get through the season because we have many great things to fight for."
During the international break, while Enzo Fernandez flirted with Real Madrid and Marc Cucurella left the door open to a move to Barcelona, Caicedo claimed that he wants to become a Chelsea legend.
Speaking to El Chiringuito TV last month, the Ecuadorian said: "I'm focused on my club right now. I have a contract with my club, and I want to do well. I want to be a legend, God willing. And well, that's all for now..."
