Moises Caicedo has insisted it is still too early for Chelsea to be considered a title contender despite the Blues’ victory over Liverpool at the weekend.
Enzo Maresca’s side ended a run of three games without a win when Estevao’s stoppage-time winner secured a 2-1 victory at Stamford Bridge, and eased some of the pressure on their manager amid recent criticism.
It also put another dent in Liverpool’s hopes of defending its title this season, with Arne Slot’s side slipping below Arsenal ahead of the international break - albeit with just a point’s difference and still more than 30 games to go in the season.
A third straight defeat in all competitions though has left plenty of questions to be answered about the Reds, and it seems as though the title race will be a much tighter affair this time around - with the possibility of more teams being involved than just Arsenal and Liverpool.
Asked whether his side could be involved in the title race, Caicedo responded: "It is too early to say we are going to win.”
The midfielder went on to outline his side’s ambitions for the remainder of the season, explaining: "For sure we want to win the Premier League. We will take it step by step because the Premier League is tough, but we are going to do our best.
"We've shown our quality, we've shown our character on the pitch. We want to continue this moment."
Chelsea had been tipped as potential title contenders before the start of the season, but after picking up just one point from games against Brentford, Manchester United and Brighton, the pressure had begun to build on Maresca.
Having beaten Liverpool, the Blues now sit five points off new leaders Arsenal, with the five-point lead the Reds had built up just over a week ago having now been wiped out.

Mikel Arteta’s side has now been made the favorite in some quarters to go on and win the title this season, with Liverpool’s recent struggles seeing it lose momentum.
Liverpool.com says: Caicedo raises a good point - it is too early to be making any definitive calls on this season’s title race. Whether that’s about Chelsea’s chances, or Liverpool potentially being out of it.
We’re seven games into the season, and Arsenal has a one-point lead, yet some people already seem as though they want to crown the Gunners now.
There is a long, long way to go before anything is decided, and hopefully things will click soon for Liverpool. If they do, then it is going to be a very interesting title race.
