Chelsea midfielder Moises Caicedo may have raised some concerns about his happiness after revealing that Nicolas Jackson was his best friend at the club.
Caicedo has been a standout performer for the Blues so far this season and has received several plaudits for his performances. The 23-year-old opened the scoring in spectacular fashion in last weekend’s 2-1 win over current Premier League champions Liverpool.
The goal was his third of the season, following strikes against West Ham and Brentford in earlier games.
It’s no surprise then that he is one of the first names on the team sheet for Enzo Maresca this season. He has played every minute available in both the Premier League and Champions League so far.
Caicedo’s performances in blue come despite him being separated from his closest friend this summer.
When asked who his best friend at Chelsea was, Caicedo told Banco Guayaquil : “It was Jackson, who has left the team.
“I was with him everywhere. I went to his house, he came to mine, we played PlayStation, I always beat him (laughs). I have a very good relationship with him.”
Caicedo's comments may cause alarm among Chelsea fans but the midfielder hasn't shown any signs of unhappiness and is a popular and influential figure in the dressing room.
Jackson completed a deadline-day move to Bayern Munich in the summer transfer window. The striker joined the German giants on a loan deal with an obligation to buy. This means his future is likely to be away from Stamford Bridge, even at the end of the loan deal.
The 24-year-old has scored once in six appearances in all competitions for his new club. After scoring that goal, in the Champions League win over Pafos, he pointed to his final months at Chelsea.
“I'm very happy to score my first goal for the club,” he said.
“I'm still getting back to full fitness because I hadn't played and trained alone for two months. I'm working hard every day. I'm very happy here, everyone welcomed me very well. I feel at home. We'll see what the future brings."
Despite the separation from Jackson, Caicedo is flourishing at Stamford Bridge and is now arguably one of the Premier League's best midfielders. Chelsea will hope that remains the case for some time to come as they bid to become title challengers again.
