"A little seven-year-old boy, he's a footballer and now he has to have surgeries on his leg."

The mum of a seven-year-old boy who was rushed to hospital after he was hit by a moped has revealed the "pain" her son has been left in.

Ethan Hodson-Ridgway was on his way home from the shops when he was hit by the moped on Saturday (December 20). Ethan was with his mother's partner and twin sister Olivia when he was hit by the vehicle that was travelling at great speeds.

According to his mother, Amy, Ethan is a big Manchester City fan with aspirations of one day playing for the Premier League club. She says that he will now have to spend a significant amount of time away from doing the things he loves the most as well as celebrating Christmas in hospital.

Speaking to the M.E.N, his mother, Amy, said: "It's just a shame that these people didn't stop. They knew it happened.

"A little seven-year-old boy, he's a footballer and now he has to have surgeries on his leg.

"He's in Manchester Children's Hospital and he's probably going to be in over Christmas which is rubbish." She added.

"He's in pain, he's talking and colouring but he's down. He's very quiet and he can't move, he's not himself and he's going to be in there for Christmas.

"He's got to have surgery on his leg. Football and kickboxing are his things, now he can't use his legs for however long it's going to be."

Amy, 34, says that there have been issues with masked moped riders in the area for a number of years. She says that she and other residents have reported it multiple times and now hope that action can be done.

"It's frustrating. I know you get these things going on in some areas and it's hard to catch them when you've got no plates.

"We've reported it quite a few times over summer and we had some officers come down to the area and do patrolling. They go so fast

"It's really problem, this is area is mainly populated by families because we're so close to a school. It doesn't feel like a safe area at the moment.

"We always said that someone was going to get hit and now unfortunately it's my child."

The moped rider failed to stop at the scene. The collision took place near to the junctions of Bramhall Walk and Kedleston Walk. Officers closed the road for a period of time following the collision.

In a new update about the incident, GMP released a statement on its Tameside Facebook page.

It said: "We are appealing to locate the driver of a motorbike, following a collision with a child pedestrian on Circular Road, Denton just before 6pm yesterday evening (20 December 2025).

"Whilst the child’s injuries are not described as life threatening or changing, he will remain in hospital over Christmas. The motorbike failed to stop at the scene and enquiries are ongoing to locate them."

Anyone with information is being urged to contact GMP on 101 quoting log 2606 of 20/12/25.

The statement continued: "We would also directly appeal for the motorbike rider to come to their nearest police station and cooperate with our enquiries."
