Mykhailo Mudryk appears to have stepped up preparations ahead of a potential return to professional football. The Chelsea winger was provisionally suspended in December 2024 following a positive test for a banned substance called meldonium, which was administered abroad while away on international duty.

In June 2025, Mudryk was officially charged by the Football Association with anti-doping violations. According to the English governing body's rules, he could be issued a ban of up to four years.

As it stands, it remains to be seen when the Ukraine international's case will be closed, having already waited nine months. Mudryk's suspension prevents him from training with his teammates or using the Blues' facilities.

So, in an effort to stay fit ahead of a potential return, the 25-year-old has been renting the 3G pitch at Honeycroft just north of Heathrow Airport. The ground is home to Uxbridge, a Southern League Premier Division South side, and is only about 20 miles from Cobham Training Ground.

Mudryk has also been hiring a goalkeeper and a private coach to help him stay in shape during his absence. The Ukrainian has been documenting his progress on social media over the last couple of weeks.

On Saturday afternoon, he uploaded two videos to his Instagram story, showing off two brilliant finishes inside the box. Mudryk didn't say anything in either of the posts, but his facial expressions said it all; even he was surprised by the quality of the strikes.

Mudryk, whom Chelsea signed from Shakhtar Donetsk in January 2023 for an initial £62million, hasn't featured for the Blues since November 2024. He scored in his final game, finding the net in a 2-0 win over Heidenheim in the UEFA Conference League.

In December, Mudryk pleaded his innocence. In an official statement posted on social media, he wrote: "I can confirm that I have been notified that a sample I provided to The FA contained a banned substance.

"This has come as a complete shock, as I have never knowingly used any banned substances or broken any rules, and am working closely with my team to investigate how this could have happened.

"I know that I have not done anything wrong and remain hopeful that I will be back on the pitch soon. I cannot say any more now due to the confidentiality of the process, but I will as soon as I can."

Then, in June 2025, Mudryk's legal counsel doubled down. They said: "Mr Mudryk's position remains as set out in his December statement and he shall not be commenting further at this time owing to the confidentiality of the process."

Shortly after replacing Enzo Maresca in the dugout, Liam Rosenior revealed he plans to hold talks with the winger when the time is right. The Chelsea boss said: "It's definitely something that I want to do.

"But there are many things I want to do and haven't been able to do. But, no, he's a magnificent player. He's had a really difficult time, and when the moment is right for me and him and the club, I'll definitely have a conversation with him."

When pressed on the situation, Rosenior added: "The time is right when I speak with the board and the sporting directors and when it's right that he's in a place where I can have an impact, in a positive way, on his career."
