Myles Lewis-Skelly and Ethan Nwaneri put on a great performance to impress Mikel Arteta and Thomas Tuchel as Arsenal and England careers could take new turn
Myles Lewis-Skelly and Ethan Nwaneri enjoyed a dream night on international duty for the under-21s. Both players have endured a challenging season with their club as Arsenal chase the title, and giving both players minutes has proved difficult.
Nwaneri has since left on loan and joined Marseille, where he is playing more regularly and scoring for the French side. Lewis-Skelly, however, has remained the third-choice left-back and found it tricky to get ahead of Piero Hincapie and Riccardo Calafiori.
Yet this week, against the Moldova under-21s, both players showed their quality. England’s first goal came after a great spin and turn from Lewis-Skelly, before his shot ricocheted to Nwaneri in the box, who finished with aplomb.

A viral video did the rounds after Lewis-Skelly found a backheel pass into the box, only for the chance to then hit the side-netting.
Nwaneri was then involved in England’s second, Tyler Dibling, with a brilliant run and the cross eventually found the Arsenal man. His shot was blocked before Spurs’ Archie Grey curled into the back of the net.
Lewis-Skelly was heavily involved in the third, picking up the loose ball, beating two opposing players with some great touches before spotting the perfect pass to Nwaneri. The Marseille loanee took a first touch with his right foot, onto his left, before curling the ball beyond the keeper, whose touch couldn’t stop it from hitting the back of the net.
The fourth goal scored by Romain Esse saw the move start from left to right with Lewis-Skelly’s inside pass to Fisher before King’s ball into the box was headed in by the Crystal Palace talent. Overall, a great night for the two Arsenal starlets.
Whether the performance catches the eye of either Mikel Arteta or Thomas Tuchel remains to be seen. However, it was an excellent night for both who needed some valuable game time.
