Chelsea have already started planning for next summer's transfer window with Nicolas Jackson set to leave Stamford Bridge on a permanent basis once his Bayern Munich loan concludes
"Exactly as I'd hoped," were the words from Emanuel Emegha when reflecting on his journey from the Netherlands, to Belgium, to Austria, to France and finally to England.
Emegha is only 22 years old, yet he has played professionally in four different European countries. And that number will soon be five, with the Netherlands international moving to the Premier League, and to Chelsea next summer after an agreement was reached with Strasbourg in September.
Starting at Sparta Rotterdam in Holland, Emegha then made the decision to move to Belgium and to Antwerp but made just one league appearance during his time there. He then moved to Austria where he spent a season with Sturm Gaz before Strasbourg snapped up the promising young striker.
His performances at the Stade de la Meinau attracted the attention of several top European sides - and that is why Chelsea decided to act early and secure the signing of him in time for the 2026/27 campaign. Emegha has now been reflecting on an incredible journey that ended up at Strasbourg and the BlueCo project that has earned him a move to world champions Chelsea.
Speaking to Algemeen Dagblad, Emegha said: "To be honest, I didn't even know where that [Strasbourg] was. I thought it was in Germany, but it turned out to be in France, well I think everyone knows Strasbourg now.
"Strasbourg really had a plan for young players like me. Well, that's worked out. I was the first player they started this process with, and next season I am joining Chelsea. So, it went exactly as I'd hoped."
Emegha is set to arrive at Stamford Bridge next summer and fight for the No.9 spot alongside Joao Pedro and Liam Delap. Nicolas Jackson, meanwhile, is expected to leave the club on a permanent basis once his loan spell with Bayern Munich has expired.
football.london understands Chelsea and Bayern agreed on a package worth more than £70million for Jackson, with the German champions paying a £14.2million loan fee and £56.2million as an obligation if certain conditions - that are classified - are met. Those conditions could be appearance-related and given Jackson has featured just 12 times under Vincent Kompany thus far, doubts have emerged over whether the Munich-based outfit will be signing the striker on a permanent basis.
Either way, Jackson sees no future at Stamford Bridge and will be seeking an exit next summer. With Emegha arriving, Chelsea will have two out-and-out No.9s in him and Delap, with Joao Pedro a versatile attacker who can play anywhere in the final third.
