Next Arsenal transfer now clear after 'important signing' announcement made

1 day ago 71

Cristhian Mosquera has become the fifth signing for Arsenal during this summer transfer window for a fee worth an initial €15 million (£13m).

The Spain under-21 international is the latest addition alongside Christian Norgaard, Kepa Arrizabalaga, Martin Zubimendi and Noni Madueke. It takes their total spending this summer to around £130million.

The Gunners finally made their fifth announcement on Thursday evening. They state that the player has joined on a long-term contract, which football.london understands is a five-year deal through to the summer of 2030.

Sporting director Andrea Berta has dubbed Mosquera "an important signing for our future" as "a hugely talented young player" and "one of the strongest young defenders in European football".

Gunners boss Mikel Arteta describes him as having "exciting talent and enormous potential" who "adds good quality to our squad" for next season.

A photo of Mosquera socialising in Singapore with David Raya, Kepa and Zubimendi already surfaced earlier on Thursday. Mosquera already appears to fit in well with the growing contingent of Spanish-speaking players in the squad and is understood to be learning English.

However, their sixth signing this summer will not need any lessons in the language.. That is because the individual has previously spent several years playing in England.

The player in question is, of course, Viktor Gyokeres. Arsenal have already reached a verbal agreement with Sporting CP for the signing.

The deal is worth €63.5m (£55m) with €10m (£8.7m) potentially due in add-ons. Gyokeres has also been adamant about only wanting to join the Gunners.

They now need to achieve complete agreement, after which the player will have a medical and complete his media responsibilities before the club make another announcement. As Mosquera is now to do, he will then fly out to Singapore and join up with the team on their pre-season tour in Asia.

"It means a lot to me," Mosquera told Arsenal's website. "There's been a lot of hard work behind all of this.

"It's an opportunity that came up and I couldn't let it pass me by. I'm joining a historic, massive club. When you arrive here with your family, you really feel the greatness of this place."
