Borussia Dortmund has urged Nico Schlotterbeck to make a decision over his future as speculation over his future goes into overdrive.

The German international has been linked with Liverpool for some time now, but reports this week have suggested that the Reds won’t be alone in any attempts to sign him during the summer.

According to Bild in Germany this week, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid are also interested, and Schlotterbeck is said to favor a move to the latter in what could be a blow to the Reds’ hopes. Dortmund though is not giving up hope that he’ll extend his stay at his current club.

Schlotterbeck’s contract expires in 2027, although he has been offered a new deal which is yet to have garnered a response.

And it seems Dortmund is starting to get a little agitated, with the club’s sporting director Sebastian Kehl calling publicly for a decision from the defender.

"I’m a fan of clarity in all areas,” Kehl said (via bullinews.com). “Sometimes you have to be patient, sometimes you make your own decisions, and in other situations, you depend on the other side.

“We're stepping on the gas. Nico knows that we want a decision as soon as possible!"

Dortmund is claimed to be ready to offer Schlotterbeck a salary of around €14 million ($17M) per season in a deal that would also include a €60 million ($71M) release clause, which would take effect from 2027.

The club though also looks as though it could be planning for his potential departure, with reports this week suggesting that Bournemouth’s Marco Senesi is being looked at as a possible replacement, with the Argentine’s contract expiring at the end of the current season.

Although Liverpool has already secured the signing of Jeremy Jacquet from Rennes ahead of the summer, it’s likely the Reds will be in the market for at least another defender, especially if Ibrahima Konate departs at the end of his contract.

In any case, Schlotterbeck doesn’t seem to be in any rush to make a decision over his future.

“I have a contract at Dortmund for more than one and a half years [until June 2027],” he said back in October. “My agent and I are going to discuss my future, but we’re under no pressure. I feel very good at Dortmund, and Niko [Kovac] has already shown a path here that is fun and exciting for the future.

“My next contract is very important for my career, so I really want to make the right decision. My agent won’t talk publicly about it - we’ll see what happens.”
