Liverpool is among a host of clubs linked with Eintracht Frankfurt defender Nnamdi Collins, who has made no secret of his admiration for Reds skipper Virgil van Dijk.

The 22-year-old has impressed with the Bundesliga side and reports last week suggested he was being watched by Liverpool and a number of its Premier League rivals, including Arsenal and Manchester City.

Speculation has ramped up in recent days after reports suggested Collins will look to secure a move away from Frankfurt this summer, and has even changed his agent in an attempt to secure a deal, with the Premier League a preferred destination.

Collins, who can play at full-back and centrally, spoke glowingly about Liverpool earlier this season before the two clubs faced off in the Champions League.

“I was rooting for Liverpool in the draw," he told Kicker. "I’m incredibly happy in Frankfurt, but I also think the Premier League is great, especially Liverpool.

"You should always set high goals; that’s why we all started playing football. But honestly, that’s not playing a role in my thoughts at the moment. I feel very comfortable at Eintracht and am extremely excited about what lies ahead."

Collins played with Hugo Ekitike at the Bundesliga side before his big-money move to Anfield but it was Van Dijk who he reserved special praise for.

"Van Dijk is, in my opinion, the best central defender in the world. I can learn everything from him: his heading ability and timing, his calmness and physical presence, his aura," Collins added.

The defender was only named among the substitutes for Liverpool's rampant 5-1 win but did make an appearance off the bench and won his first cap for Germany earlier this season.
