Arsenal winger Noni Madueke has finally got off the mark for the Gunners after scoring in a 3-1 Champions League win over Bayern Munich, and he has called for the club to 'keep pushing boundaries'
Noni Madueke has told his team-mates to "keep pushing boundaries" both domestically and in Europe after after scoring his first goal for Arsenal.
The England winger made a triumphant return from a two-month knee injury lay-off, helping the Gunners secure an impressive 3-1 Champions League victory over German heavyweights Bayern Munich.
Despite facing some opposition – including a petition against his signing – from Arsenal fans when he joined from Chelsea in the summer, the 23-year-old replaced the injured Leandro Trossard in the first half and proved his worth.
Bayern's young talent Lennart Karl had levelled the score following Jurrien Timber's opening goal for the hosts, but Madueke turned the tide by converting a cross from Mikel Merino after the break.
Gabriel Martinelli, also returning from injury, capitalised on a mistake by goalkeeper Manuel Neuer to net the third goal, ensuring the Premier League leaders maintained their flawless record in Europe and topped the Champions League table.
Reflecting on the match, Madueke told the club website: "It was a top night, a great night," and "A Champions League night, so it was perfect to get my first goal for the club and for the win on top. It's a perfect night."
Discussing his recovery from injury, he said: "I had a long injury, it was difficult, but now I've made up for it. It's amazing. I can't really say much more, just amazing."
He further emphasised the importance of the team's current form, stating: "It's massive, it's massive what we're producing at the moment, not just in the Champions League but our domestic form, and we need to continue at this level and just keep it going.
"The level we're playing at right now is incredible and we need to try and keep adapting, keep pushing it, keep pushing boundaries and that's the only way we can stay there."
Arsenal face another crucial fixture this Sunday with a Premier League away match against second-placed Chelsea – a contest Madueke is eagerly anticipating.
"You go eight weeks without the thing you love the most in the world," he added, "so you are chomping at the bit to just be on the pitch as much as possible. I can't wait."
