Nottingham Forest tipped to beat Tottenham to midfielder as Morgan Gibbs-White payback

According to transfer market expert Pete O’Rourke, Nottingham Forest are likely to beat Tottenham to a Premier League midfielder who Thomas Frank is rumoured to be a big fan of.

It has been widely reported that Frank wants to strengthen Tottenham’s midfield department, and several sources had claimed earlier this summer that the North London side had set their sights on an Aston Villa star.

It was rumoured that Tottenham had explored a move for Jacob Ramsey, amidst suggestions that Villa are happy to cash in on the Englishman to improve their PSR situation.

A couple of weeks ago, it emerged that Thomas Frank is a fan of Ramsey, and that the North London club had scouted the 24-year-old extensively last season.

Nottingham Forest installed as the favourites to land Jacob Ramsey

A couple of days ago, it was claimed by The Telegraph that Nottingham Forest had made Ramsey their top target for the summer.

Now, Pete O’Rourke believes that Nuno Espirito Santo’s men look favourites to win the race for the Villa star, particularly given that Morgan Gibbs-White could be on his way to Spurs.

O’Rourke told Football Insider: “If Ramsey was to leave, Forest will probably be the favourites. Obviously, we know Forest are scouring the market for attacking reinforcements with Elanga moving to Newcastle, and it seems Gibbs-White will end up at Tottenham.

“Everton are making ambitious moves in the transfer market. They’ve brought in Barry from Villarreal, and if they were to get Ramsey, it would be a huge coup.

“If Villa were to sell him, Forest would be able to get to that £40-50million mark, and having European football at the City Ground might just give them the edge. I think Villa would like to keep hold of Ramsey, but if a big offer was to come in, Forest would be favourites ahead of those other clubs.”

No apparent movement in Morgan Gibbs-White to Tottenham

While sources continue to indicate that Gibbs-White will eventually complete a move to Tottenham, it is unclear how long the deal will take to be done.

In fact, the latest developments at Forest suggest that Gibbs-White’s move to Spurs is not close at the moment. The England midfielder looks set to fly out to Portugal and meet his Forest teammates for their pre-season tour later this week.

One does wonder whether Daniel Levy may consider putting pressure on Nottingham Forest by advancing on a move for Ramsey.
