Oliver Glasner has Crystal Palace exit plan after Marc Guehi to Liverpool transfer threat

8 hours ago 3

Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner is reportedly planning on leaving the club this summer just months after reportedly threatening to resign over Marc Guehi's proposed move to Liverpool.

The Reds agreed a deal to take Guehi to Anfield with the player given permission to undergo a medical with the Premier League champions. But the deal fell through at the 11th hour with Palace unable to bring in a replacement.

Guehi has since made it clear that he will not sign a new deal at Selhurst Park and will leave at the end of the season, with Manchester City having now joined the race for his signature.

And it appears that Glasner will also be leaving Palace as reports in Spain suggest a replacement is already being lined up for the Austrian.

According to Carrusel Deportivo, the Eagles have identified Getafe boss Jose Bordalas as its next boss should Glasner, as expected, not sign a new deal as his current contract expires this summer.

Glasner insisted he did not issue an ultimatum to the Palace board about Guehi's future at the time but he did warn that his side would be in for a season of struggle without its captain.

He was also particularly critical of Palace's lack of investment last summer after losing talisman Eberechi Eze to Arsenal, hitting out at the board recently.

He said: "We missed a couple of chances in July and August, in the transfer window, to make it easier for us but again we will stick together and make it better.

"If you play European football for the first time in your history, you should invest and not save.

"I think January is too late [to add]. We will have played more than 50 percent of our games. Everything was pretty clear and I didn't say anything but today I think it is also time to speak about it that we missed the chance to play an even better season in the summer."

Meanwhile, the Times has reported that Pep Guardiola is keen on Guehi as he looks to strengthen his Manchester City defense this summer.

Both John Stones and Nathan Ake are expected to depart and the England international is regarded as the perfect signing on a free transfer, with Liverpool expected to reignite its interest.

The Reds have had defensive issues all season, with Ibrahima Konate struggling for form amid speculation over his own future with his contract also up in the summer.
