Paul Merson and Harry Redknapp agree with exact same Liverpool vs Everton prediction

2 hours ago 26

Liverpool has won each of its matches so far this season but only narrowly and always with late goals. On Wednesday, it was skipper Virgil van Dijk who was required to power home a header in stoppage time.

Arne Slot and his players will know that cannot continue forever, and they will hope to break the pattern today against Everton. A win of any kind in the derby, though, would maintain a strong start.

Pundits including Paul Merson and Harry Redknapp have made their predictions ahead of the game and those two are in agreement over what the result will be. Both are going for a 2-1 win for Liverpool.

"It’s unbelievable how Liverpool have managed to win all four of their Premier League games so far this season," Merson told Sportskeeda.

"Considering how they’ve played in these games, they should be mid-table! I have to give huge credit to their incredible mentality though, they just never give up.

"In the past, you could never give Everton a chance at Anfield, but if they keep things tight at the back, I think they have the quality to hurt Liverpool. However, I still think the reigning Premier League champions will edge it."

Redknapp went for the same scoreline and is also looking forward to the game. "What a game to start the weekend, the Merseyside derby!" he told Bet Victor.

"Liverpool just keep coming up with late winners. We saw it again the other night against Atletico. That’s the sign of a top side though... just ask Fergie!

"Everton look revitalized this year. I’ve really enjoyed watching them. Grealish, Ndiaye, Dewsbury-Hall, that’s three lads that can really hurt and cause problems.

"It’s rare for Everton to go to Anfield with a bit of confidence and momentum, but I think they will here. I’m still going for Liverpool though, 2-1.

"He played an hour or so against Atletico, and I’d imagine Alexander Isak will be in from the start here. Surely, he won’t get his first goal for the club in the derby, will he?"

Liverpool is in action first this weekend and has a three-point lead at the top of the Premier League table. Arsenal, who sits second, will host Manchester City, another potential title contender, on Sunday.

Liverpool.com says: It is likely to be a tight game but at Anfield, the Reds should always be confident. The bad weather could be a leveler but Arne Slot's team needs to find a way of getting over the line after a tough week and a quick turnaround from the Champions League win over Atletico Madrid.
