Pep Guardiola admits players ‘might leave’ as Tottenham chase Man City trio

9 hours ago 26

Tottenham Hotspur reportedly have their sights on three of Manchester City’s stars, including Savinho, and Spurs fans would be encouraged by what Pep Guardiola has said about his squad.

Some reports have suggested over recent days that Man City have told Tottenham that Savinho is not for sale since Guardiola does not want to lose the Brazilian.

However, other sources continue to maintain that Savinho remains hopeful of joining Tottenham before the transfer deadline, with the Brazilian unhappy that City have so far not facilitated the move.

Spurs are also thought to be keen on adding a centre-back to their squad, and it has emerged that Manuel Akanji is on Tottenham’s radar. Additionally, it has also been reported that Spurs have already held talks with Man City over a deal for Nathan Ake.

Pep Guardiola opens door for players to leave Man City

One of the first questions that was put to Guardiola in his press conference on Friday was about Savinho’s future, and he failed to confirm that the winger will remain at the Etihad Stadium.

When asked about Savinho’s future, Guardiola said (via Manchester Evening News): “When the transfer window shuts, ask me about that. I won’t talk about rumours until then, ask me next week.”

Previously, the Spanish coach has been honest about his desire to trim City’s squad, and he has now hinted that the club are indeed trying to do that before Monday’s deadline.

He added: “We have a long squad and people might leave with transfers, and we have to accept it. The size of the squad is what it is. I know the club is doing the best it can. I’m so proud of my players. I’ve never met a player who doesn’t do his best.”

Why Tottenham fans should not lose hope over Savinho just yet

We know that Guardiola does not tend to stand in the way of players who want to leave City.

Reports continue to indicate that Savinho is extremely keen on sealing a switch to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, having been sold on the club’s project by Thomas Frank.

The Manchester club may thus be open to the sale if Spurs go in with a huge late offer, but some journalists continue to indicate that Savinho’s move to Tottenham depends on Man City getting Rodrygo, which looks unlikely at the moment.
