Manchester City defender Issa Kabore made an impressive debut out on loan at Wrexham, with the Welsh side's manager claiming Pep Guardiola could be tempted to recall him
Pep Guardiola has been sent a message over a player it's claimed he might want back at Manchester City.
Defender Issa Kabore is currently on a season-long loan from City at Championship side Wrexham. While he has not made a single senior appearance under Guardiola since joining in 2020, the 24-year-old has hit the ground running with the Welsh club owned by Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac.
Kabore made his debut for Wrexham on Saturday, starting at right wing-back as they travelled to face Norwich City. The Burkina Faso international made an instant impact, grabbing two assists for the Red Dragons as they beat the Canaries 3-2.
The result lifted Wrexham up to 15th in the table after a shaky start to their campaign, which saw speculation raised and later quashed over the future of manager Phil Parkinson. The former Bolton boss has now jokingly raised concerns that City head coach Guardiola could be tempted to recall Kabore after his impressive display against Norwich.
Speaking to The Athletic, Parkinson said: "What can I say about Issy? The medical team were behind me and saying, 'His sprint distances are completely off the scale, can we get him off?' But he was doing such a good job defensively.
"For us, we have had very attack-minded wing-backs in recent years. He is that. But we also needed someone with a defensive mindset as well.
"In one-v-one situations against a really good player in [Papa] Diallo, he had to stick to his task. I just hope Pep doesn't get a video of the game as he might want him back."
The chances of a recall are scant in reality with Kabore spending most of his time at City out on loan. He previously played for Luton in the Premier League during the 2023/24 campaign following their promotion to the top flight.
A temporary switch to Benfica last year did not work out, but he impressed more in the second half of the campaign at Werder Bremen. A number of clubs were reported to be interested in signing Kabore in the dying embers of the summer transfer window.
Ipswich and Leicester were among the Championship outfits who made enquiries, as well as Bundesliga side Hamburg and French team Paris FC. However, it was Wrexham who ultimately secured his services on deadline day and are now reaping the rewards.
Another person left impressed by Kabore's performance was Wrexham forward Josh Windass, who grabbed two goals against Norwich.
"The lads who have just joined were outstanding and the whole team were, so it wasn't really down to me," he said. "Kabore was a threat all day and Sheafy (Ben Sheaf) in the middle and big Dom [Hyam] at the back [did well too]. I thought everyone was outstanding."
