It might be nearly eight years since he left Anfield, but Philippe Coutinho has shown he clearly still has a soft spot for Liverpool.
The Brazilian spent five years on Merseyside before departing for Barcelona in January 2018 for what is still a record fee for any transfer involving Liverpool, having left for the Camp Nou in a $189 million deal.
Life after the Reds didn’t quite go to plan as he struggled to find his feet with Barca, with spells at Bayern Munich, Aston Villa and Qatari side Al-Duhail following, with the 33-year-old now plying his trade at his boyhood club Vasco da Gama.
Coutinho has always maintained though that he doesn’t regret his decision to leave Liverpool, even after finding himself on the losing side at Anfield just a year later as the Reds staged a remarkable comeback against Barcelona on their way to winning the Champions League.
And he clearly still has something of a soft spot for the club, as he demonstrated during his son’s birthday party this week.
Coutinho’s wife Aine shared pictures from the celebrations, with the former Liverpool star’s family dressing up in kits from some of his former clubs.
Coutinho himself donned a Liverpool shirt from the 2018/19 season - ironically the same kit won by the Reds during that 4-0 win over Barcelona at Anfield - while his son wore the current Adidas kit.
His wife sported a Bayern shirt - Coutinho won the Champions League while on loan with the German giants in 2020 - while his two daughters wore Barcelona and Inter Milan replicas.
Speaking about his departure from Liverpool to Sport last year, Coutinho was asked whether he had any regrets about his decision, to which he replied: "No. At no time.

"Things did not turn out as I imagined, as people expected, as I expected because I am the first to demand of myself on the field, I tell myself that I have to give more on the field. I tried everything, I have always been very professional and I don't regret anything.
"It was always my dream to play for Barça and I went there, I enjoyed it, I was able to meet many people, win titles and it will always be in the story of my life." When questioned whether he would alter anything about his career trajectory, he responded: "Nothing. I would not change anything.
"Going back is impossible, but as I said I don't regret anything, I always gave my best in training as I do here and as I did last year and as I will do next year. If things fit well, great and if not, patience."
