The predicted Chelsea line-up for this afternoon's Premier League meeting with Burnley as Enzo Maresca faces some tough decisions regarding the personnel he fields
Chelsea will be without Cole Palmer for this afternoon's Premier League match against Burnley after the attacker suffered a fresh setback in his recovery from injury.
Palmer was due to train with the Blues this week for the first time since coming off with a groin injury against Manchester United on September 20, but a bizarre incident has seen the 23-year-old fracture a toe on his left foot. The England international stubbed his toe while at home and Enzo Maresca has confirmed he will definitely be out of Chelsea’s next three games against Burnley, Barcelona and Arsenal.
So, once again, Chelsea will have to cope without Palmer and everything he brings to the team. With that being said, football.london has a go at predicting the line-up Maresca will field at Turf Moor this afternoon:
Robert Sanchez
Chelsea’s undisputed No.1. The Spanish goalkeeper was not called up for international duty, so has had time on the training pitch with Maresca and the rest of the club's staff. Sanchez has been in fine form this season and will be hoping for his third successive clean sheet in the Premier League.
Malo Gusto
Gusto is set to make his 99th appearance for the Blues. This season, the Frenchman has played virtually everywhere - and has flourished while doing so. Maresca spoke about Gusto's significance to the squad during Friday morning’s press conference.
Wesley Fofana
Another two weeks on the training ground for Fofana will do the defender no harm at all. There are shouts for Josh Acheampong and Tosin Adarabioyo, but Fofana could get the nod in Lancashire today.
Trevoh Chalobah
When predicting teams this season, the question has been, 'Who will partner Chalobah?’' The Cobham graduate was called up to the England squad at the last minute but did not get on the pitch at all for the Three Lions.
Marc Cucurella
One of the first names on the team sheet. Cucurella should have chances to attack against Burnley this afternoon - and Chelsea might need him to do just that depending on how coming up against a low-block is going for the visitors.
Reece James
Could be a game where we see James in midfield again. It could be Gusto with James at right-back, but the Chelsea captain might be asked to play more centrally again. James has been in superb form this season for the Blues and will be hoping to continue that at Turf Moor.
Moises Caicedo
Caicedo only arrived back in the UK on Thursday after representing Ecuador. Maresca said on Friday that the Chelsea midfielder will be checked and monitored ahead of the lengthy trip up north, but by all accounts it sounded as if he would be fine.
Pedro Neto
Neto used the international break to recover from a groin knock he sustained in the win over Wolves. The 25-year-old winger pulled out of the Portugal squad and it looks to have done him some good. The wait to see Estevao Willian start in the Premier League could go on.
Enzo Fernandez
Similarly to Neto, Fernandez also withdrew from international duty with Argentina. The Blues midfielder has been struggling with a knee problem in recent weeks but Maresca confirmed he is ready to feature at Burnley.
Alejandro Garnacho
The former Manchester United winger has started the last five Premier League games as he continues to impress following his summer arrival. Maresca is trusting Garnacho more and more with each passing game. He remains the head coach's first choice on the left-hand side over Jamie Gittens.
Joao Pedro
Two in two for Joao Pedro in the Premier League. The Brazil international will be hoping to make it three successive top-flight goals at Turf Moor today, with Liam Delap presenting an option from the Chelsea bench.
