Premier League explains why Man Utd goal was allowed to stand against Liverpool

6 hours ago 28

The Premier League Match Centre has explained why Bryan Mbeumo's goal was allowed to stand in Liverpool's game against Manchester United.

The Reds fell behind early on at Anfield as Mbeumo fired past Giorgi Mamardashvil but the goal was not without controversy after Alexis Mac Allister picked up an injury.

The Argentine midfielder was caught by teammate Virgil van Dijk and appeared to sustain a head injury. But instead of stopping play, as is the norm in the Premier League, referee Michael Oliver let play continue.

Mbeumo capitalized to open the scoring and on Sky Sports, commentator Peter Drury said the goal was allowed to stand because Oliver didn't see Mac Allister on the ground.
