The Chelsea sporting directors, Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley, will be under the microscope this summer, with the Chelsea squad in desperate need of a revamp
Lewis Hall has told BlueCo exactly what they need to hear ahead of the summer transfer window...
Since May 2022, when Clearlake Capital, owned by Behdad Eghbali and José E Feliciano, and Todd Boehly took the reins at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea have made a conscious effort to sign some of the most exciting young players in the world.
Although the Blues have managed to tie down the likes of Estevao Willian to long-term contracts, they've underestimated the importance of building a balanced squad, which blends youth with a healthy mix of quality, leadership and experience.
By religiously following a model that focuses on acquiring and fostering world-class potential rather than world-class ability, Chelsea have starved those that they've signed and those that are in the academy of valuable learning opportunities, which ironically would probably accelerate their development.

Speaking to HaytersTV during the international break, Hall commented on the role that Thiago Silva played during his formative years. Thomas Tuchel, who named the Newcastle United defender in his latest England squad, handed him his Chelsea debut in the FA Cup at the age of 17.
Hall went on to make nine appearances in the Premier League for the Blues, playing next to the veteran centre-half in eight of them. Eager for more opportunities, Hall joined Newcastle on an initial loan at the end of the season.

The Magpies then secured his signature permanently the following summer. The 21-year-old, whom Newcastle signed from the Blues in a deal worth up to £35million, said: "It goes without saying really the experience he has in the game.
"He’s played a number of games at the highest level, and although he didn’t really speak much English, he was so good with me and always wanted to help me improve.
"He was obviously playing a lot of games for Chelsea, and quite regularly for someone of his age, he was taking time on the training pitch to try and help me out.
"At the time, him and a lot of other players were trying to help me improve. Whenever you get to play and train with older players, you learn a lot from them. I’m really grateful."
This summer, the Chelsea sporting directors will lead the recruitment process, with 'great conversations' already underway. Speaking recently, Liam Rosenior said: "We’re having really detailed conversations now about the areas that we want to strengthen.
"I’ve had great conversations about what I think we need. We’re very aligned, actually, in terms of where we want to strengthen and how we go about that, which is very exciting. The most important bit, though, is making sure we get the now right as well.
"It’s great to be able to plan for the future, but I want to make sure we’re also in a good place. We want to win. That’s why I’m here, and I’m having really good conversations with the ownership and sporting directors about that."
Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley have a couple of years at the helm, yet they've shown no sign of deviating from the BlueCo model. Perhaps Hall's comments lead the Chelsea chiefs to tweak their approach this summer...
