A Premier League star was allegedly threatened with a gun in a terrifying incident, with the Metropolitan Police confirming they have launched an investigation
The Metropolitan Police have launched an investigation following allegations that a top Premier League footballer was threatened with a gun. A football agent was reportedly arrested and taken into a custody following the terrifying incident.
The player, who is believed to be valued at approximately £60million, was strolling down a busy London street with a friend when the alleged incident took place. The police were alerted at 11:14pm on 6 September, and the Metropolitan Police have since confirmed that they are conducting a comprehensive investigation.
An agent was arrested and held last month under suspicion of brandishing the weapon with the intention to incite fear of violence, according to The Sun. The agent, who represents a host of stars including an England international, is also under investigation for allegedly blackmailing and issuing threats against the friend of the footballer.
As of now, he has not been charged with any crime. Two days after the incident, police swooped upon his Hertfordshire residence, and he was granted bail on 9 September on the condition that he refrained from contacting the player.
The agent was also slapped with a prohibition preventing him from visiting the training ground of the player's club, as well as a travel ban. Nevertheless, a variation in bail conditions was approved by a judge at the magistrates' court.
The individual requested his passport to depart the UK for pre-arranged trips, but he is reportedly obliged to surrender it back to the police upon his return.
A source told The Sun: "This was a terrifying incident and one which has sent shockwaves through the business side of football.
"The player was understandably shaken up - to have threats made against you with a gun is shocking.
"He reported it right away. It was the right thing to do for his safety. He has been supported by his friends and club and they all hope it will not impact his performances.
"But there will be serious questions about why this happened, which the police are now trying to answer."
