PSG Alerted as Chelsea Eye Big Real Madrid, Barcelona Target Signing

PSG have focused on bringing in top French talent in recent transfer windows, securing players like Bradley Barcola, Désiré Doué, and Lucas Chevalier.

Now, the club seems determined to bolster its defense with another promising French player. While Liverpool’s Ibrahima Konaté has been linked to a potential move, PSG might have a different high-profile target in mind.

Bayern Munich’s Dayot Upamecano is set to become a free agent after the 2025–26 season, and PSG are reportedly monitoring his situation closely. Christian Falk of Sport Bild recently confirmed the club’s interest in the defender.

If Upamecano becomes available next summer, he could be a prime signing for PSG, though luring him may prove challenging given the attention from multiple other clubs.

Football London reports that Chelsea could potentially save about £52 million by waiting until next summer to sign Dayot Upamecano, who will become a free agent.

However, the risk is missing out if Bayern Munich chooses to sell him in January, especially with Liverpool and other clubs reportedly showing interest. Across Europe, a wave of defensive changes is anticipated this January and next summer, as several top center-backs approach the end of their contracts.

Moreover, Bayern Munich have no plans to lose one of its top players to free agency after this season without a fight. Recently, Florian Plettenberg of Sky Sports Germany reported that after Vincent Kompany’s contract extension at Bayern Munich, Max Eberl is considering negotiating a new deal for Upamecano.

Discussions are underway, though no agreement has been reached regarding the signing-on bonus or whether a release clause will be included. Bayern Munich, meanwhile, are standing firm against adding a minimum fee release clause to Upamecano’s potential contract.
