PSG secured a trophy this week to cap off an excellent 2025 after defeating Brazilian side Flamengo in the 2025 FIFA Intercontinental Cup in a penalty shootout.
Both sides were level 1-1 after 90 minutes, and the extra time ended in a penalty shootout to decide the winner. Moreover, it was Matvey Safonov who became the star of the match during this part of the game.
The Russian shot-stopper made four crucial saves during the penalty shootout, allowing PSG to secure the win over Mengão.
Nonetheless, the trophy came at a cost that could impact the Ligue 1 side’s January with two key UEFA Champions League matches and the Trophée des Champions to start January 2026.
