PSG Get Strong Words Over Pursuing Real Madrid Transfer Target in 2026

PSG have shown in recent transfer windows that they are prioritizing top French talent, bringing in players such as Bradley Barcola, Désiré Doué, and Lucas Chevalier.

That strategy appears likely to continue as the club looks to strengthen its defense. While Liverpool’s Ibrahima Konaté has been mentioned as a potential target, PSG may turn their attention to another high-profile French center back.

Bayern Munich’s Dayot Upamecano, who is under contract through the 2025–26 season, has reportedly caught PSG’s interest. Transfer insider Fabrizio Romano noted that the club is closely monitoring Upamecano’s situation.

Romano added that a move could become possible in the summer of 2026 if Upamecano decides not to extend his Bayern contract, opening the door for a free transfer.

With Upamecano yet to sign a contract extension, when January 2026 arrives, the defender will be free to sign a pre-contract. As a result, RMC Sports’ Daniel Riolo is urging the French giants to go all-in for the Bayern Munich standout.

“Obviously, he’s the player they need to go for,” Riolo said on Wednesday’s edition of “After Foot RMC” (h/t Le10Sport). “For PSG, it would be fantastic.”

Fabrice Hawkins of RMC Sport recently reported that PSG is preparing an offer for Upamecano if he decides against extending his Bayern contract. Real Madrid has also reached out to the player’s representatives. Bayern remain in talks with Upamecano’s camp, but no agreement has been reached.

The French defender could also settle his next move ahead of the FIFA World Cup next summer.

“I hope so,” Upamecano told L’Equipe (h/t Paris Fans) when talking about whether he intends to have his future settled by the World Cup. “My agent is handling it. We’ll make the right decision. I’m getting good advice. I’m focused on my season, on my club and national team goals. My mind isn’t on that right now.”

Moreover, the defender also discussed his current situation with Bayern Munich and whether he sees himself playing in France for PSG.

“I’ve always said I feel good at Bayern,” Upamecano added. “I have a great coach. I get along well with my teammates… I’m under contract with Bayern. I have goals. I’m very grateful if there are clubs interested in me.”
